Principal's Corner

PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME PAGE

On behalf of enthusiastic and dedicated staff of William Jefferson Clinton Elementary, I am happy to welcome you to a brand-new school year. Personally, I am grateful and elated to continue this journey with you as your new Interim Principal. Over the past year, I have had a chance to meet many of you and your children, and look forward to continuing to build a strong relationship with all of you in the upcoming year. As we enter this new school year, I want to let you know that our staff will be engaging in conversations around having a growth mindset, both for themselves and all students. We believe that every person in this building should always be growing and learning.

On behalf of Clinton teachers and staff, we look forward to having a successful school year. We will continue to serve with a focus on student learning to meet the challenges in a rapidly changing global society. Our mission of “bridging language and technology while preparing our scholars to become college or career ready and successful members of a global society” will continue throughout the school year.

At Clinton Elementary School, students from diverse backgrounds are supported in their academic needs through our robust educational experiences and 21st Century interventions that are engaging and meaningful. Some of our interventions include but are not limited to, Imagine Learning, Achieve 3000, Smarty Ants, Waterford and iReady. Students now have home access to many of these online programs.

School hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All 2nd and 4th Wednesdays will be shortened days and students are dismissed at 2:15 p.m. Students may not be dropped before 8:15 a.m. and must be picked up at dismissal time.

Our attendance goal continues to be 99%. This past year our school wide attendance percentage was 98%. I am more than confident that with your help and support we can reach 99%. We know that emergencies and illnesses occur, parents should notify the school by sending a note signed by a medical doctor or calling 562-630-7912. Doctor’s appointments should be made in the afternoons and after school. If an afternoon appointment cannot be avoided, please bring your child to school immediately after the appointment.

Breakfast is provided from 8:15 a.m. – 9:50 a.m. in the morning. Uniforms are an important aspect of our school expectations. Our uniform colors are green or yellow (tops) and green plaid bottoms for girls or khaki bottoms for boys. Students must also wear closed toed shoes for safety reasons.

Our community and parents are engaged through a plethora of involvement opportunities such school volunteer work, health workshops, trainings, data meetings, parent-teacher conferences, various assemblies and parent committees such as Parent Teacher Association, English Learning Advisory Council, and School Site Council.

Our after-school program provides enrichment in fine and performing arts as well as some academic and homework support. Throughout the year students are able to participate in competitive sports where we have also excelled. We have managed to create multiple opportunities for students to get involved and take on active roles in their school community.

The intensity and high quality of our instructional program is possible as a result of strong partnerships and collaboration with parent groups, teachers, students, and supportive members of our community. Together we have made exemplary milestones in achievement with an increase number of students each year testing proficient and advanced in reading and math. We look forward to continued success and partners in education that support our overall mission. Thank you for visiting our school website and entrusting us with servicing the educational needs of your children.

Sincerely,

Ms. Khalia S. Lindsay, MA. Ed.
